Senior portraits should be fun!

Christina recently went to the photographer that her high school requires for the yearbook, but like many seniors, neither the experience -- nor the "stiff" results -- were what she had envisioned for her senior portrait experience. Senior portraits are a special milestone, and they should not only be fun, but yield portraits that show off the teen's personality.

I had a lot of fun photographing Christina this evening. I can't really imagine her taking "stiff" senior portraits but I will take her mom's word for it. Thanks, Christina, for trusting me with this very special event in your life! Your portraits will be online within a week.

metamorphosis

Tonight I witnessed a metamorphosis. A woman has became a mother; a couple has become a family.

The beauty of this:

Congratulations, Dana and Ryan -- may every day be an adventure.

Sneak Peak

I plan to use this blog to give my clients a sneak peak at a portrait or two from their session before their gallery goes online.

Today's clients wanted classic black and white portraits of their family, and I don't think they will be disappointed. Here's a little sneak peak for the Pratts. Check back later for a couple more colorful portraits of the little ones.

And, one of each of the little ones:

Unplanned portrait

I have noticed that sometimes the most striking portraits are the ones that weren't posed. On Friday I was talking to a new mom while she was comforting her 5-week-old before our portrait session was to begin. We were casually talking when I noticed how beautiful and confident she looked as she held her baby and talked to me. So I picked up my camera and before she even noticed, took this shot. It's so natural, and the glow of her new role in life really shines through.

I had to show this one off, too -- I wonder what he's dreaming about?

Precious baby girls!

I had the honor of photographing two beautiful little girls last Friday. These identical twin six-month-olds were so good for their lengthy portrait session. I have wanted to photograph twin girls (I have a twin sister myself!), and I also had the opportunity to do more grandparent portraits, which I think are very special. My own grandparents are gone now, but I wish so much I had a portrait like this of me and my twin sister with our grandparents.

Thanks to this family for making the two-hour drive for me to create portraits
I hope they will cherish for years.
